THANK YOU to all who came out to the 2018 BCGWA Trade Show, Convention, and AGM this year!
This year we were pleased to offer an interactive 24-booth trade show, a full day well pump installer course, an opportunity to challenge the well pump installer ITA certification exam. Thank you to PSI Pump Systems Inc. for instructing the course. Congratulations to the newly elected members of our Board of Directors: Mark MacNeil (Geotechnical/Environmental Director), Ward VanProstij (Okanagan/Kootenay Regional Director), Morly Bishop (Manufacturer & Suppliers Director), and Lloyd Ingram (Director at Large).
We also enjoyed a great line up of speakers. On the first day, Lindsay Macfarlane and her team at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (MOECCS) spoke about the new GWELLS platform and kicked off one-on-one engagement sessions for improving access to groundwater-related information. We also obtained updates from Ministry staff on groundwater licensing and groundwater protection, and learned about on-site sewage system performance, and groundwater studies in the Albertan oil sands.
The ‘wellspring of information’ continued into the second day with an introductory address by Amy Sloma, new head of Aquifer and Watershed Science at MOECCS. Next followed a variety of talks on the topic of flowing artesian wells, insurance, and water supply projects by Global Aid Network Canada in developing countries. Thank you to Wally Wells, Executive Director of Asset Management BC, who delivered a thought provoking lunchtime address, and to the Fab Fourever for bringing us back to the Beatles era at our President’s Gala.
